Utah Occupational Safety and Health 2021 Nonfatal Workplace Injury and Illness Statistics

The Survey of Occupational Injuries and Illnesses (SOII) is a cooperative program between the Utah Labor Commission’s Occupational Safety and Health Bureau of Labor Statistics (UOSH BLS) and the U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics. The SOII was administered by UOSH BLS. The 2017 version of the North American Industry Classification Systems (NAICS) was used to group company data by industry. The federal portion of nonfatal occupational injury and illness data are released during November of each year.

Highlights of 2021 Results

The combined incidence rate for nonfatal workplace injuries and illnesses in the private sector and state and local government employers within the state of Utah during 2021 was 2.7 per 100 full-time workers. The incidence rate for 2020 was 2.6 per 100 full-time workers.

 

Private Sector

UOSH BLS surveyed employers of private sector in 2021 for information regarding their average number of workers, hours worked, and details on nonfatal occupational injuries and illnesses. There were no significant increases or decreases in incidence rates from 2020 to 2021. See below for incidence rates per 100 full-time workers that occurred in 2019, 2020 and 2021.

State and Local Government

UOSH BLS surveyed employers of state and local government in 2021 for information regarding their average number of workers, hours worked, and details on nonfatal occupational injuries and illnesses. There were significant increases in incidence rates for total recordable cases and other recordable cases from 2019 to 2021. See below for incidence rates per 100 full-time workers that occurred during 2019, 2020 and 2021.

State Government

From 2020 to 2021, there were significant increases in incidence rates for total recordable cases and other recordable cases, and a significant decrease in the incident rate for cases with days away from work. See below for incidence rates per 100 full-time workers that occurred during 2019, 2020 and 2021.

Construction

UOSH BLS surveyed employers of private sector construction in 2021 for information regarding their average number of workers, hours worked, and details on nonfatal occupational injuries and illnesses. There was a significant increase in the incidence rate for cases with days away from work from 2020 to 2021. UOSH BLS surveyed employers of private sector manufacturing in 2021 for information regarding their average number of workers, hours worked, and details on nonfatal occupational injuries and illnesses. There was a significant increase in the incidence rate for cases with days away from work from 2020 to 2021. See below for incidence rates per 100 full-time workers that occurred during 2019, 2020 and 2021.
