SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah Labor Commission and its Division, UOSH, announces the National Safety Stand-Down to Prevent Falls in Construction, May 4 – 15, 2015, to raise awareness among employers and employees about the hazards of falls.
Fall prevention safety standards were among the top 10 most frequently cited UOSH standards during 2014. Over the last 10 years, more than 3,500 workers have died from falls. Falls remain the leading cause of death in construction, accounting for more than a third of deaths in the industry.
As Utah’s economy continues to grow and the construction season begins, the National Safety Stand-Down will remind employers and employees that fall prevention is an important part of every workplace safety plan. UOSH is encouraging employers and employees to pause and talk about fall protection during the Stand-Down.
For more details and to learn how to partner with OSHA in the stand-down, visit National Safety Stand-Down and obtain training resources, fact sheets and other outreach materials in English and Spanish. Employers will also be able to provide feedback and download Certificates of Participation on their experience.
