Bountiful – On Wednesday, June 26, 2013, the Occupational Safety and Health Division (Utah OSHA) is conducting a special outreach campaign throughout Utah to promote safety and increase awareness of the importance and value of a safe jobsite. A media event will be held at Sahara Construction’s ATP Building X project site at 560 North 2200 West in Salt Lake City, from 2:00 pm to 3:00 p.m. Project tours will be given at this time.
Sahara was chosen for this honor because of their commitment to Safety and Health in the workplace. Sahara received the ARCHES AWARD in 2011 from the Utah Labor Commission for leadership and exemplary commitment to safety practices in the construction industry. According to Louis Silva, Director of Utah OSHA, “Sahara is a shining example of a company whose full commitment to Safety and Health is demonstrated by their adherence to safety practices in all of their projects. They are a leader in the construction industry consistently emphasizing safety as a top priority, and whose example should be emulated.”
During the 2013 State of Utah General Legislative Session, the week of June 23-29, 2013, was officially designated as Workplace Safety Week in the state of Utah. This resolution urges the citizens and organizations of Utah to participate in activities that recognize the importance of safety in the workplace.
On June 26th, Utah OSHA will dispatch all field personnel from all programs to go out and visit businesses and work sites throughout the state to promote safety, increase awareness, answer questions and provide safety materials to employers. NO CITATIONS OR PENALTIES WILL BE ISSUED TO THOSE WORKPLACES VISITED ON JUNE 26 AS PART OF THIS CAMPAIGN.
